Minister Tumwebaze Urges Farmers to Prepare Early for Season A Planting
Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze has called on farmers across the country to take advantage of early rains by preparing their fields for Season A planting, stressing that timely action is critical for food security and livestock feed availability.

 

The Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Frank Tumwebaze, has urged Ugandan farmers to begin preparing their fields for the upcoming Season A planting following the onset of early rains in several parts of the country.

In a statement, Tumwebaze emphasised the importance of early land preparation to boost agricultural productivity, ensure national food security and provide adequate feed for domestic ruminants.

“God gave us substantial chunks of arable land. Let’s leverage that endowment to increase production both horizontally and vertically,” Tumwebaze said.

The minister also appealed to agricultural extension workers to play an active role in guiding farmers throughout the season, urging them to use radio, social media and other accessible platforms to share accurate and timely farming advice.

“Fellow Ugandan farmers, please ensure that the fields have been ploughed and or harrowed ready for planting,” he said.

With early rains already being experienced in parts of the country, the ministry expects farmers to take advantage of the favourable weather conditions to increase crop production and strengthen household food reserves.
